Biography

Wolter Wielenga is a highly experienced Project Director with a career in owner’s organisations as well as contractor (EPCM) companies with over 35 years of project & programme management, engineering contracting, operations management, and management consulting experience.

He has worked on various projects across Europe, Middle East, Russia, Africa, Central Asia in the upstream oil & gas, downstream oil & Gas, chemicals, and energy industries, where he served as project manager or management consultant, affording him strong experience in setting strategic direction and leading large organisations, implementation of organisational change, business process re-design, and strategy development.

Wolter is a strong people leader, pragmatic and analytical project director, and relationship builder who excels in complex organizational set-ups through the ability to see the big picture, build relationships and communicate effectively.        

Wolter started his career in 1986 as a Pipeline Engineer at Shell International Petroleum Co., The Hague. He was Head of Projects at Petroleum Development, Oman, from 1991 to 1995. From 1996-2000 he had a stint in consulting as Senior Consultant/Assignment Manager at the PA Consulting Group. From 2000 to 2009 he worked on various oil/gas and energy projects with NEM BV, Jacobs Engineering Netherlands, and Sakhalin Energy.

From 2009 to 2019, he worked with Shell Companies across Iran, Netherlands, Nigeria, and Kazakhstan, serving as project manager/director on various oil and gas and energy projects with project costs in Billions of dollars.

A Dutch by nationality, Wolter holds an MSc Civil Engineering from the Technical University Delft and an MBA from the Henley Management College / Brunel University London. He is a Registered Project Professional (RPP) of the Association for Project Management (APM).
